You’re overwhelmed by clutter, frustrated with your laundry system (or lack thereof), or just longing for simplicity and considering hiring a professional organizer. But how does it actually work? Don’t worry; I’ve got answers!

Consultation
Ideally, I’ll come over to see the space in person and talk about your pain points and priorities for the space. We can also do this via FaceTime or even texting pictures if that works better for you. As it says on my services page, I don’t do quotes for how long a project will take since there are so many variables, but we can talk through my packages and figure out where it makes sense to start. I ask a lot of questions, like:
Do you want to declutter, organize, or both?
How do you use the space currently?
What is the most frustrating thing about the space?
What would ideal use of space look like to you?
Are you interested in purchasing new organizing products, using only what you have, or somewhere in between?
Scheduling
If we determine that we’re a good fit, we’ll schedule your first session. I may take a few pictures of the space to help me do some pre-session planning. Trust that I’ll be thinking about your project before we even start! Yes, this is the stuff I think about when I’m trying to fall asleep at night. I am who I am.
Note that I typically do 3-hour organizing sessions, but if you live more than about an hour from Jamestown, I may require a longer minimum session time.
The Big Day
When I get to your home, we’ll discuss the goals for the project and jump right in. The best place to start is getting rid of trash, both actual trash and stuff you already know needs to go. After that we’ll start emptying the space and sorting your items. I think of decluttering less as “getting rid of stuff” and more as “deciding what to keep.”
Once we’ve determined what you’re keeping, the real fun starts! This is when we’ll organize the space and help you create a routine to maintain the space and thrive in it.
Some projects will require multiple sessions, which means you could have less than ideal conditions between working days. That’s ok, because it can allow us time to purchase products and make tweaks to our plan as you live in your space. For instance, we may declutter and measure your pantry in session one. Then, we can shop for products (multiple options how this could work) and once they come in, we’ll do an installation session.
FAQs
Will you make me get rid of all my stuff? No! You are the boss of your stuff. You get to decide.
Will you share pictures of my space on your website or social media? Only with your permission.
Do I have to spend a ton of money on all new bins and organizing products? Only if you want to. I love working with what you have and shopping for shiny new bins.
Should I shop before my session? Please do not. Putting clutter in bins doesn’t make it not clutter. Let’s get rid of what you don’t need, use, and love first, and we’ll have plenty of room for what stays.
How do I get my decluttered stuff out of my house? I’ll take it! I can take one carload per session of decluttered donation items to the drop-off location of your choice.
